This is a mini-arc melter, which can be placed inside a glovebox for air-sensitive materials.
This is a mini-arc melter, which can be placed inside a glovebox for air-sensitive materials. It is a smart tool to melt air-sensitive alloy, refractory metal tube seals, and vacuum casting. With additional add-ons, it can also be used outside of the glovebox as the conventional arc melter.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Features | A water-cooled copper hearth has 4 small cavities for alloy melting of 4 x 8 g up to 2500ºC max The central tube holder allows refractory tube seals, such as Ta, Nb, and Mo. 6.6 " ID (168 mm) quartz chamber for observation and protection. Compact footprint: can put in a standard Ar gas glovebox with a purification system The power and water feedthrough will be provided for the glovebox version. |
Power Supply | Input voltage: 120 or 240 VAC, single phase, 50/60 Hz Power: up to 2500 W @ 120 V and 4000 W @ 240 V. Current: 17A max. @ 240 V ( 50 Amp power breaker is highly recommended) 120V: 125A/15V @ 35% Duty Cycle/ 40º C 100A/14V @ 60% Duty Cycle/ 40º C 80A/13.2V @ 100% Duty Cycle/ 40º C 220V: 185A/17.4V @ 35% Duty Cycle/ 40º C 145A/15.8V @ 60% Duty Cycle/ 40º C 110A/14.4V @ 100% Duty Cycle/ 40º C |
Tungsten Electrode Gun | Ø4 mm tungsten electrode without water cooling Max. continuous melting time: 30 s. Electrode tilting and height adjustment (30 mm max) for multiple samples Capable of melting samples < 8 g (SS304) in each cavity |
Copper Hearth Central Tube Holder | To melt alloy, use the water-cooled copper hearth (90 mm diameter) with 4 cavities of Ø23mm x 7mm D and up to 8g (SS304) in each cavity. To seal metallic tubes, use the central tube holder at the center of the copper hearth for adjustable tube sizes: Ø3~16mm Dia. x 30~90 mm Length. |
Chamber | Quartz chamber with vacuum-sealed flange Quartz Tube size: OD180 mm x ID 168 mm x Height 150 mm Two KF25 and one KF16 port Vacuum level: 10-5 torr by the turbopump |
Feedthrough (Only included in the glovebox version) | 5 KF40 spare ports are required. Two high-current electric feed-throughs Two fluid feedthrough One multi-pin electric feedthrough |
For use under ambient conditions only | For the product option of ambient condition, a few additional parts will be added. Valves and fittings for gas inlet and outlet. Stainless steel protection box with eye protection cover. Vacuum valve and fittings Feedthroughs will be removed. |
Application Notes | High-purity inert gas with at least 5N purity (> 99.999%) is required (not included) 5% Hydrogen + 95% Argon gas may be used to prevent oxidation during the melting process. Combine with our melter, low speed saw, you can build an integrity small metallographic lab at a low cost |
